Vintage Mattel 35th Anniversary Barbie Doll #11590 – 1959 Reproduction Ponytail Barbie, Collector Edition in Original Box

• A nostalgic piece of Barbie history. This is the 35th Anniversary reproduction of the very first Barbie, the doll that changed the toy world when she debuted in March 1959.
• Mattel made this edition in the mid-1990s (copyright 1993, released for the 1994 anniversary) as a tribute to the original. It recreates the iconic 1959 ponytail Barbie, with her signature black-and-white zebra-stripe swimsuit, gold hoop earrings, sunglasses and open-toe heels.
• The box is silver-gray with a bold magenta stripe, a gold mirrored backing panel with fashion artwork, and the red Mattel seal. It is a handsome display piece even on the shelf.
• Great for the Barbie collector, 90s nostalgia fans, and anyone filling in a timeline of Mattel milestones. It also makes a memorable gift for a lifelong Barbie lover.
• Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel, and named after her daughter Barbara. Ruth was inspired by the German Lilli doll she spotted on a trip to Europe. • Honest condition: pre-owned box with visible shelf wear. There is creasing and a crack in the silver cardboard, a torn and lifting spot near the top corner, and scratches and scuffs across the clear window. There is minor lifting and wear around the Mattel seal. Overall it is a presentable, complete-looking box, but it is not mint. I haven't opened it to inspect the doll.
