Did you know that Habitat ReStores across Canada have helped divert more than 1 billion pounds of usable goods from landfills?
This World Environment Day, we're celebrating the power of reuse and the impact that small, everyday actions can have on our communities and our planet.
Every year on June 5, World Environment Day reminds us that protecting our planet doesnโt always require big changes. Sometimes, the most meaningful impact comes from small choices we make every day.
From the furniture we donate to the items we choose to reuse, our everyday decisions can help reduce waste, conserve resources, and create a more sustainable future dedicated to our communities.
At Habitat for Humanity ReStore GTA, sustainability is at the heart of what we do.
Why Reuse Matters
Many household items still have plenty of life left in them. Furniture, appliances, home dรฉcor, and building materials are often discarded long before they need to be.
When these items are donated instead of thrown away, they can be reused by someone else, helping to keep valuable materials out of landfills and reducing unnecessary waste.
Every donation and purchase at ReStore helps extend the life of quality items while supporting a more circular economy. This economy is one where resources are used for as long as possible rather than ending up in the waste stream.
The Environmental Impact of ReStore
Since the first Habitat ReStore opened in Canada in 1991, ReStores across the country have helped divert more than 1 billion pounds of usable goods and building materials from landfills through donation and reuse programs.
Thatโs more than just waste reduction. It represents millions of items given a second chance, fewer resources consumed to manufacture new products, and a significant contribution toward more sustainable communities.
How YOU Can Make a Difference
This World Environment Day, consider taking one simple step toward a greener future for all:

Small actions may seem insignificant on their own, but together, they can create real and meaningful change.
