John Pepper Downes was a prominent figure in 19th-century Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. He held various important roles, including Justice of the Peace, captain of the local militia, and County Clerk Treasurer. Downes is particularly known for his artistic contributions, creating pencil sketches of the area, twelve of which are preserved and reproduced by the Prince Edward County Historical Society. These works capture historical interpretations of the local landscape of Canada.
